Alex Adrian and Molly Mannes studied Sunday morning for their big weeks ahead. Both studied in dark rooms with only window light illuminating the area. I had to use my flash so that the subjects would be in focus and bright enough to see.

Often when using a flash, different elements in the photograph reflect light. Alex’s leggings reflect the flash and so does her hair. Molly’s glasses and computer reflect the flash as well. This is one unfortunate thing about using a flash. It was interesting using the flash for this assignment because Professor Hart has emphasized how much he does not want us to use it in our daily work.

I tried to crop these photos the best I could. I didn’t want there to be a lot of extra unnecessary space. I made the shot tight to their head and cut out unwanted background. I also tried to frame the subject using the rule of thirds. Your eye is not drawn to the exact center of the photograph.

Next time I shoot, I will make sure I capture the subjects’ eyes. Unfortunately, both Molly and Alex are wearing glasses that block their eyes from the camera.
